August 11th -Continued

Lynn and I walked back and met up with everyone at the tent...Vicki had found an onyx ring that she liked but wasn't sure if it was authentic and an antique...Steve was telling her that she should have me check it out for her, I was faltered he valued my opinion. I went over to the vendor with her ...we talked more with the lady, she right away complimented my Mom's wedding ring...which is very simple... I was touched... she said she has  traveled the world buying antique jewelry and had a shop for years in Bayfield.. we checked for the K stamp on the inside and it was 10K...the other ring she was interested in only had the K it had been re sized and the gold amount was gone... I felt the value wasn't there with that missing..just from experience selling gold jewelry. The diamond was just a chip so not really an issue as far as knowing it was authentic...Vicki dickered with the price and got it down to an agreeable price ... it is a very pretty ring and I think she got a great deal but most importantly she loves the ring!

While everyone else went down by the lake Beth, Lynn and I walked around the market..Beth hadn't seen all of it yet... it was fun...

We all met up ( thank goodness for Cell phones)....and started for home...first stopping at Ehler's for some buns...Lynn went on ahead and Pat and Vonnie were going to have a nap and be over later.

I was the driver and Len decided he wouldn't put on his seat belt since it isn't a law in WI..Steve was giving him a bad time about it..but Len said he had total confidence in my driving.

We were just past Herbster and a car pulled out in front of us...I laid on the horn and slammed the brakes.. the guy did stop..but what a close call.. Steve told Len see??? Len's reply was "I am right in my confidence in Darlene's driving...she handled it perfectly"...

Lynn was sitting there waiting for us...she had a gift for Steve and a card she had made... it had a dump truck carrying presents stamped with "Happy Dirtday"...and inside it said "Happy Dirtday" with "st" between the happy and Dirtday... Steve's old nickname was Dirt... Lynn had read a poem Steve's friend, Mark had written about Steve and got a kick out of him being called St Dirt in it... we all laughed and then Steve said why would a company make a card like this who would buy it?  we laughed even harder because he didn't realize Lynn had made it!!

Len got out the bean bag game and he and Steve started playing... after they were done Vicki and I challenged them...

Beth arrived while we were playing ..She had the fixings for the Bloody Mary Bar...I went and helped her set up ..Steve opened the gift from Len and Vicki..it was 2- ltr bottles of wine..perfect for the night and no reason to go to Iron River.
Beth had made the mix...we put out the Beef Sticks, Shrimp, Celery, garlic stuffed olives, sweet red/yellow peppers, fermented green beans, dill pickles (canned this year),  salt and pepper to put on the rim of the glasses...we mixed one up to try and what a surprise when I bit into the green bean...it was so hot I was choking... I looked at the jar and it wasn't beans after all- it was hot peppers!! Beth tried one and it was too much for her too, then Len tried one and it didn't affect him at all!!

Vonnie and Caela played Bean bag and after their game Steve and Len played them...it was a beautiful day and perfect sitting outside and playing games.

We got the Bocce out and started playing ..Rocky arrived ..he had unloaded the shed with help from Beth..and he was moving it..he went down to the Flagg River for a bath...came back and joined our game... taking Steve's spot.

It was getting dark so we thought we best get the fire going...Rocky got the chain saw going ...we got the hot dogs and fixings for supper ready...plus the pulled pork Len and Vicki had brought..

Rocky cut down one dead tree...and that burned up quickly ..Vicki and Vonnie  were roasting hot dogs unfortunately the hot dog sticks we had were really short.,,, they passed the sticks to others to take turns because their hands were getting hot.. so much for buying cheap ones,

Rocky took the truck over to our shed to cut down a tree there.  we could hear the chain saw a humming  it wasn't long  and  we were good with the fire wood...what a guy...cutting down trees in the dark... when we complimented him on his doing that he said " well, that is what I do"...he works for an expert tree trimmer and tree removal man in the Bayfield area...

Vonnie and Caela went away from the fire and were watching the meteor showers... they came back and told us and Rocky got up and said "what am I doing sitting here"  and went away from the fire so he could watch them.

He came back after awhile and was wrestling with Murphy...Murphy was growling really sounding vicious ... but that is how he plays ... it was funny.. Rocky was rolling around and throwing him over from side to side.. they were having so much fun!

It was after 12 ...we started bringing the food and dishes inside... I washed up the dishes ...no keeping that mess until morning... the gals wanted to help but  my kitchen is a "one butt" kitchen  so it is best to just work alone ...

Everyone headed for home ...I went back to the fire..Len went in to take his contacts out then came out and said he was going to bed ... Steve followed next, Vicki was tired too and pretty soon it was just me and Murphy at the fire...

I think Steve's Birthday was  a success!
