Aug 14th Madeline Island

Today the plan is to go to Madeline Island...after 5yrs we are finally making the trip over there.

We left at 8:30am..it isn't supposed to be a very hot day so we left Murphy with just the windows open in the trailer... it feels like home to him now so we don't crate him when we leave.

I made a call to Beth when we could get service.. climbing the ladder doesn't always work!
She had some green beans for us and will stop when she gets off work.

I then called Mary to see how things were going at our house...she was watering the planters, picking beans and going to do the nasty job of changing the rabbits liter box.
Did she have some news ...
Ron had been in the hospital over night in ICU!  he thought he was having a heart attack, felt weak and dizzy and called her at work ...she took him to the clinic, the nurse couldn't get a reading and quickly told the Dr that there was a problem..they did an EEG ..his heart was okay .except for his heart was beating erratically, his BP was low and his pulse high... they changed his BP meds and kept him over night to watch for blood clots...

He was feeling better  over the weekend and they were  going for a follow up today...she will leave me a message on my phone with the outcome.  This year they decided to not come for  Corny Weekend and would come another weekend ... Ron said it was a good thing they didn't come...I told Steve that and he said he and Lenny would have taken care of him, and who knows what that would have entailed!  So it was God's Grace that was at hand there!

We got to Bayfield and didn't have a long wait at all for the Ferry ride..It was just a beautiful day and a nice 20 minute ride over to the Island.

When we got off we didn't really know where to go so we just  followed the crowd... we went down Main Street...we found the bike and Moped rental that Ed's (Tom's partner)  daughter-in-laws Uncle and Aunt own... he was busy helping someone, we waited awhile but it seemed like it was going to be awhile so we decided to  come back and meet him.

Across the street was a cute little shop that was selling straw hats...only $15...didn't think that was bad and I thought I needed one... I picked out a cute brown one.

We walked down the street and to the beach... I didn't find any colored glass like Virgene had when they were there last year...I should have checked with her where that was..

we went back in to look for Tom's Burned down Bar..it was right across the street from the moped rental. (the uncle had left by then) ..it didn't open until 11 so we went to the Art studio next door...they had some really interesting things in there...

We came back and it was open... what funny signs they had all over...Telephone booth..

the neighbors sign....

Steve had a beer and I had a lemonade...we read the signs and really got a good laugh...would be fun on a weekend when a band was playing!

We left and walked down towards the ferry ... stopped at the Museum...it was $7 admission so we passed on that and will save it for the next trip when we have people with us...the gift shop was great...I bought a "Bird's of Wisconsin" book.

We went into a gift shop that also had some interesting things...I bought a Swedish dish cloth...it was flat looked like  a piece of cardboard, when added to water it supposedly would expand and be a great cloth ..wiping off counters..etc..I bought one, we will see if their claims are true.  Steve bought 2 place mats that were maps of the Apostle Islands...one for Beth and one for us.

We had to wait about 10mins for the Ferry.. it runs every 1/2 hr 10am to 5pm...the Ferry got there and they unloaded the cars from the ferry and the people and then we got on...it wasn't long and we were heading back to Bayfield...

That man in the bottom of the picture was making us nervous because he would hold the baby kind of over the railing...Steve said later he was sure that fool would drop the baby and he would have to jump in the water to save it... but glad that didn't happen.

Driving home through Washburn we looked for a place to buy the lawnmower battery.. the hardware Store told us that "Frenchies" across the street sold them...that reminded me of my Mom's cousin Frenchie...it must be a good place!  While Steve was getting the battery I went to the thrift store and browsed... they did have some cute purses but decided against buying any..

We then stopped in Corny at the Artesian Well for water and to Susan's office to say hello... we almost hit head on ..she was heading to her office in Bayfield...we visited for awhile...and then left for home...
