February 7, 2013

It was overcast and they were calling for snow showers today..Beth called to see what time we were leaving and said she was working at the cabin on Hwy 13 with the carpenter from Chisago City..I asked if we could stop ..she said yes and gave me some landmarks to look for to find it.

We left Hutch at 9:15 ..just North of Dassel it started misting..
Steve thought we might be running into some ice..I checked the weather map on my phone and it didn't look like there would be..I said a little prayer and sent my Guardian Angel ahead to "clear the way"..
Steve stopped at the post office so I could send the hat I  made for Sommer..the pattern was called Robin Hood.  Delores W posted it on FB...I have made 2 already.. knits up quickly...a definite pattern to keep!

We stopped in Foley for a snack..I let Murphy out but with the snow there wasn't much room for him to snoop around..usually we go behind Casey to the gully back there.. he was a little confused!

It had quit misting and the roads were good...onward to Mora unclaimed freight and then Hinckley.

Diane wasn't working today at Cassidy's...I was going to ask about her but didn't ..must have been her day off...but she wasn't there the last time we were there either.  It wasn't very busy ..I hope it is because of the season.

We decided to stay on the freeway to Superior. We didn't want to chance running into icy road on the county roads we usually take.

We found the landmark on 13 but didn't see her car at the next place..plus it had a windy driveway through some trees...she didn't mention that...we turned around and went back and tried again... but still didn't see her car so gave up,
 figuring she got done early.

Our driveway had been plowed thanks to Carl. he had doone it on Tueday and it had snowed a couple inches since then  but Steve was glad he had plowed because all that white it would have been pretty tricky following the driveway with out a path to follow.

I got my boots on and trudged through the snow to the trailer ..it was about a foot 1/2 deep.

The shovel wasn't inside..I asked Steve and he thought he put it under the trailer..I started looking under the trailer and worked my way to the back and there it was propped in the back side, next to the ladder.

It was about 27 inside..I started the little fireplace ..unloaded the cooler and dry goods... somehow the unfiltered water for my bucket and dishes was left at home.  I told Steve the refrigerator wasn't working and he reminded me that it was cold already so would start working until the temperature raised... reminder for me not to panic about this if I come up alone in cold weather.

I looked in the sink and a dark gray thing was in the strainer...was it an old teabag?  I looked a little closer and no not a teabag but a dead Shrew.. I picked it up in the strainer and gave it to Steve.. there were little droppings in the sink and on the counter...I guess I will have to use my precious water  it didn't look like Steve was in a hurry to get me water at Patty's.. not waiting to get that cleaned up and sterilized!

Beth came..she did finish early ..there were some unexpected problems..she said she found a mummified cat in the basement... the things she has found while working at her job!

She and Al, the carpenter,  were visiting while they worked and he asked where in Minnesota she was from...she said Hutchinson but actually Cedar Mills..he asked if she knew the shearer, Doug Rathke.. Al was a sheep shearer himself and had worked with him... he had sheared in Montana and also had 2 Border collies ...what a small world!

Since they ran into a snag at the place so she wouldn't be working there tomorrow,  so she will be free to play with us!  She would come over in the morning and and we would start off with  breakfast.

I put out some crackers and the Hot pepper jelly dip... she and Steve had a glass of wine..I poured some Chaga for myself  put it in the Mic to warm it and it tripped the breaker...after it happening the last time we were there we knew to check the one in the trailer..so Beth tripped it back and we shut off one of the heaters and I got the tea heated..  now to remember to do that when we use the mic.

It started to lightly snowing...so beautiful!

Beth said that we were supposed to get some Lake effect snow  and usually Herbster gets hit when the wind is from the NE we will wait and see.

She left about 6..Rocky  should be home from  snow kiting after work..the winds were good... BRRRR..

Neither one of us were hungry ..so we skipped supper..Steve went around turning on and shutting off different lights to find the right ambiance... he decided on the Ott light on the kuchen table was best..and came and sat next to me on the couch so he could enjoy electric fireplace..

Murphy was ready to go to bed so I put the old sleeping bag on the bed and let him up there.

Before I went to bed I put on a sweat shirt over my pj's and left my socks I had earlier turned on the heated mattress pad so I was nice and toasty!
