August 16th

Beth arrived for our run at 8:30a..
Steve said he would take us for breakfast if we got back in time before she had to be to work at 10.
Our route today is to the point where the E and W Flagg Rivers meet.  The Sun was peaking out when we started..we got 1/2" of rain during the night so the air felt so fresh..

we took a left at the driveway and started toward the Flagg River Rd. They are working on White Birch at that end and got to the part where they hadn't put gravel on yet and all of a sudden our shoes felt like we had  cement shoes.. actually we kind of were...the red clay from the rain was like concrete and we had about 1/2 inch of it on them... we were laughing and trying to continue on with our pace and hoping we would get to a more stable road and the clay would shake off... we got to the Flagg River Rd and the gravel was back and most of it fell off.
We turned to the right which I had told Steve was the start of the ATV trail and not for cars..I was wrong it is the Flagg River Rd but it leads to the ATV trails..it was quite hilly...beautiful though with the trees and vegetation...we passed the Mechanics home who had a sex change a few yrs back..Beth said she was a good Mechanic and used to teach mechanics at a Tech school...Rocky was waiting to get one of his vehicles in to her shop...so she is very busy.

We came to the ATV trails that takes you to Touve Hill... so now I know if we ever get an ATV or borrow Carl and Patty's how to get to Beth'.. we made it to the parking and walked a path through the woods to the rivers.. It was a beautiful spot with the water rushing over rocks in the river....Beth said it was a great fishing spot.. Steve will like that when we move up there. In the spring the suckers are so thick people spear them.  That sounds like fun..Steve has his Grandpa's Spears so we are all set!! No camera with so didn't get a picture next time I will..I have the camera on my list of what not to forget when we come back in September.

We started running back..the wolves were howling... wish I would have brought my knife along.. running in town I need my cell phone... here I need my knife or the gun...but that would be too bulky to run with.
We got to the last hill on White Birch road and I was ready to walk, Beth agreed .. We got back and Steve was gone.. the dog too..
Beth went in to change and noticed Steve left his billfold... so he hadn't gone to the store.
Steve returned, he had been out looking for us..he was not happy... he didn't think we would be gone an hour!  Next time we will have to make sure we tell him our route.  Beth turned to me and gave me that clenched mouth grin... like saying "oops"...She had to leave for work it was almost 10..

I made some toast and put some of Patty's home made Grape Jelly she gave us.. Carl said it was the best!  and he was right...not too sweet...you could really taste the grapes!!

I knitted and Steve got the chain saw and cut the bush further down that he tried to pull out yesterday... that bush was interfering with his plan for our driveway.

It was a cloudy windy day so we took a few naps and just relaxed..it felt good.

Beth had said Rocky was going kiting after he got off work either in Port Wing or Herbster...so we went to the pier in Port Wing to see if he was there...he wasn't .. the waves were really crashing  ...so we went to Quarry Beach to see how it was there..they weren't crashing as much but still cool to watch..there was only one car there...the people were further down the beach...they had 3 tiny dogs with.. one of them was heading back towards us and picked up the dog and walked by us.. She said her dog was afraid of other dogs...I told her not to worry our dog didn't like other dogs and would be staying clear of them so we both should be good... she smiled and said "YES"...she was a very pretty young gal...she sat on the rock maybe 50 yds from us and Murphy totally ignored them...so hopefully it helped her dog with it's phobia.

we stopped at "The Store" and I picked up some of their great ground beef to make hamburgers for supper, got The Connection(the local newspaper)and an ice cream treat ..an Ice Cream Taco..it was a waffle cone shaped like a taco with ice cream and chocolate..NUMMMM!

Reading the Sheriff's report is always a treat!  The best one this issue was a lady from the Bayview motel called in to say a bear had come in to the lobby and taken a bowl of M&M's and was sitting outside eating them...
maybe I just need to carry M&M's on my runs to just throw at the bears.

I went for a walk looking for Chaga.  On the East side I found a path down the ravine that was easy to maneuver and I made it down to the fence made from tree roots..I wanted to show it to Vicki but my original path was too over grown with vegetation... so now I have another route plus it is an easier way down.

Beth stopped after work and we played a game of Bean Bag... she got out her well worn measuring tape, and wrote down the dimensions...I think it would be a perfect Christmas present for Steve and me.

She said when she got to work she was telling the girls about her Dad looking for us and Jeff the boss..peaked around the corner and said he had stopped there and really looked crabby and mad..Beth told him he always looks that way...which he doesn't really look mad he looks serious.. poor guy he was really worried about his girls..

Rocky had called earlier and said he was going to be in Herbster with the kiting instructor he had met last yr ... he was staying in Red Cliff for the summer..Rocky is self taught in Kiting and really is thrilled to kite with an expert to get tips...  So we left to watch them... first stopping at their place to make sure he hadn't gone home.

He wasn't home yet so we went on to the Beach.. they weren't there...the wind mustn't have been right there and they had moved on to Corny..we didnt feel like driving in to Corny so we went back to Beth's to order her cell phone... she has been with out one for a few yrs ...service isn't that good there so she doesn't really miss it ...but I think she still should have one and she will have a family line off of ours. We tried to do it on line but I couldn't remember my PW...so we ended up calling ...Steve gets a discount from work so it is nice she can still get in on some perks!

Steve was going to leave for home today but decided he would stay one more day and leave tomorrow...it will still give him one day to relax before he has to go back to work.
I was glad.

I made burgers for supper...I put the rest of the Salsa Cheese Curds in them...and fixed the green beans from Beth.. I wanted to put them on the grill but didn't have any tin foil...I did have some of those cheap tin 8x8 cake pans so used them...one for a cover...no olive oil but used the Coconut oil ...

We went to bed early..Steve thought it was going to be colder during the night so we just cracked the window a bit over our heads.. I love sleeping when the air is cool and you can crawl under the covers!
