September 13th
I got in a panic when Steve told me he didn't think there was room for everything I had stacked by the garage door to bring along... so I looked things over and crammed all the dry good into one crate...and a small bag with heavier cans and bottles. I don't know what he was talking about everything fit with room to spare!
We left at 9:15..they are putting in the Bike trail today or tomorrow..1st finishing the gutters and curbs on the last 2 blocks of our street. We went E on 5th to Hwy 15 and there were 2 cement trucks blocking the road...we waited awhile but they were not obliging us by moving ..so we turned around and took the side street to go around the block.
Steve complained about all the traffic.."where are all these people going, it is too late for going to work, why can't they stay home where they belong?" I told him "maybe just like us...getting a head start on the weekend or maybe shopping? There really wasn't that much traffic...he is so funny sometimes...
They are still working on 23 between St Cloud and Foley..he complained about tha too..hmmm... is this how the weekend is going to go?
We stopped at Mora at the Unclaimed Freight, found some good bargains. then off to Hinckley for lunch.. Dianne was our waitress.. I had the Salad Bar this time ..for once I trust my tummy will be okay with it.
We left there at 12:15..I told Steve 2 more hrs and we'll be there... he disagreed with me... we will see...
Our turn off to 23 from I35 was closed...now what? that stretch of 35 was 2 lanes..I told him we just need to take the next exit and then angle back to 23..and asked where the map was so I could check ..well, it wasn't handy.. note to self to take care of the maps from now on... he decided to make a u turn.. I told him that it was illegal and he didn't care..he said they should have warned us of the ramp being closed... so he pulled over to the side and we got a blast of the horn from the car behind us who was traveling to close .. Steve saluted them.. when it was all clear he made the turn perfectly between the poles..I kept watch for the Hwy patrol but we made it safely back to 23 exit and that ramp was open.
We got to Port wing at 2:23P... so I told him "see we made it in just over 2hrs..he said we weren't at our place yet! So at 2:30 we arrived.. big deal I think I am still right!
There were lots of flies in the place...fall is here!
We got things unloaded and I started putting things in the Fridge and realized it wasn't working!! Oh dear.. how can that be? It was new when we bought the trailer..how much use has it had? not much..does turning it on and off not good for it? So Steve looked it over... took the back wall off in the freezer..not sure what he did ..but it started...I told Murphy I was so lucky to have such a handy hubby!!
I went out to check the apple trees.. Patty's favorite tree was ready to pick...not too many apples this year, but they sure are tasty. There are only about 3 of the 19 trees that have apples on them. The frost in April did it... plus the hail they had this spring too.
Steve was sitting inside and I told him we should be outside it was so nice out there.. so I went and dragged out the lawn chairs for us and even let him have the nice lounger I got from Janet and Jim's moving sale.
I brought out the metal detector and went around a bit of the yard...no hits.. Steve wasn't surprised..
When I talked to Beth this morning she said she would stop after work..it was getting later and later..I had though maybe we would go to the Port for Pizza..but now thought I better put the Chicken Wings in the oven. I got some Tamara sauce at the Lamb Shoppe.. Connie said she uses it in place of Soy Sauce...so I used it on the wings...got the pilot started..it seems to take forever for the oven burners to lite... I have memories of stories of oven doors blowing off with gas building up. I wonder if that was true??..left the door open just in case...it finally lighted and I threw the wings in.
Murphy and I went to check more apple trees. I would bite into them and throw them into the ravine..Murphy would go after them and bring them back to eat himself.. he was so proud of himself!
I had put on a short sleeve t-shirt when we got here and now went in and put on a sweatshirt..it was cooling off..not long after that I needed to put on my poncho..soon we both decided it was time to go inside. I didn't think the "Mr" had the energy to build a fire for us.
Beth never did show up, that is one thing about the spotty cell phone service.. just like "the old days of no phones" ..they have plans to camp a couple days on Sand Island this weekend, but maybe they won't go until Sat and Sunday and we will see her tomorrow.
The wings were done but we were both still full from lunch.. they sure did smell good and the Tamara coated them nicely..they will be a quick meal for the weekend!
Steve put on the electric fireplace heater ..it was nice ..I wasn't feeling any heat so went over and checked it..he hadn't turned that on, he just had the dancing flames...so I pushed the switch for heat.
We talked about our plans for the weekend..#1 on Steve's list is to get the furnace put back in. I have the Peonies to plant and my tulip bulbs.
We went to bed and cracked the window a bit to get the crisp air.. just laying there looking up out the window over our heads ..it is so peaceful ..the stars were twinkling! Soon the wolves started howling in the distance.
