OCTOBER 13TH

I wasn't feeling good at all when I got up ...it was 4:30..I had my tea and said my Rosary..  I was just feeling dragged out and didn't think I would be able to do any hiking..I looked in the medicine chest and had some dried creeping charlie ..so I made a decoction..drank it in my teacup which still had a little cinnamon tea still in it..then I crawled back into bed.. When I got up at 8:30 I felt so much better.

I went to call Beth..it was drizzling out a bit but I still walked to the end of the driveway to call...the call went through and I told her to meet us at Joyce and Marks room in Herbster at 10.
She thought the trail at the top of the Sea Caves was a round trip of about 2 miles..but Minaquin Rd was even more eroded and she said we could go a bit further down to Menard Rd to catch the trail..that would be an even shorter trip..Joyce was having knee problems and thought it would be pushing it walking more than 2 miles , so that would be perfect.

I got back to the trailer and my phone rang..it was Joyce ..but I only got to say "hello" and I lost service..it was drizzling  more so I got into the car ..when I reached her she said they got chased out of the Beach Motel by the flies..they had just finished breakfast at Pine Cone Ole's..and wanted to know if we could meet at 9:45.. I said we would get ready and leave...I called Beth and she was almost ready to go.

we unloaded the backseat so J&M could ride with us..left Murphy home with the fire burning.

It had stopped drizzling but still overcast..they said the flies were so bad. Mark said when he first went inside the bed was covered with them.. he quickly brushed them off before Joyce saw them..but during the night Joyce was fighting them in the bathroom...she had never seen so many flies.  She left them a "nice" note.

We got to Menard Rd and it wasn't bad at all..had to walk a ways to the trail but the trees were beautiful it was just so picturesque!

I brought the metal detector with..which wasn't such a good idea.  That is something to do on it's own.. not while trail walking with friends.
I did get a hit or two but didn't take the time to dig deep enough for it.

Beth spotted chaga..all we had was my shovel to chop it off..we did get a few good chunks.. she spotted a few more trees with it on... this is a great spot for it with the Lake right there...cold, cold wind blowing!

we got to the top of the caves and Joyce and Mark loved the view!

She took some great pictures ...

Joyce and Mark loved the Sea caves..Joyce always likes to take a humorous picture so she layed down close to the edge and Mark grabbed her leg to make it look like he was saving her from going over!  Joyce is such a "JOY" ...I keep telling her that!!

Close to where we parked  Beth found more Chaga.. she had a chisel and hammer in her trunk (what girl doesn't ?)  and Mark removed it... he said he would never look at a Birch tree the same!

We went to the VI for lunch..Cheryl hadn't heard about the engagement ...she was super excited!

We had a great lunch...Steve and I had White Fish slidders, Mark a bowl of Fish Chowder, and Joyce the special "Chicken Au gratin Potatoes and corn with a cup of Chowder.  Beth had her favorite a Reuben Sandwich.

After we ate we showed them the rooms upstairs...they were impressed...Mark said it will be a tough decision "VI or Beach Motel" in the future!

We dropped Joyce and Mark back at their car...they were continuing on to Bayfield and possibly Madeline Island.

We came home and napped..it was so nice...I woke up and Steve was gone..when he returned he had a bottle of wine mystery solved ..he went to Iron River!

I decided I needed to get a run in ...just a mile..I still felt so stuffed from lunch.
I ran up to the hill to the east and then to Patty's driveway and home..it was getting close to dusk and didn't want to run into any nocturnal critters moving around, so that was far enough.

I finished my book it was a story of 3 woman who met in Medical school  and their lives after.. it was good.

Steve showed me an article in Newsweek  about "there is a Heaveen" written by a Neurosurgeon who experienced it.

We both were still full from lunch so skpped dinner.

I tuned in NPR ..looking for the Lone ranger..that wasn't on but Ed Cantor was... I barely remember that show.

Steve got Maggie and said he was going out to shoot a couple times just to let them know we were there..he had such a cute boyish grin on his face.  I went along..found my ear plugs ..stuffed them in...he shot the 2 and I told him to shoot another so he did...when we went inside he said he shouldn't have done that because 3 shots was an "SOS" signal.
maybe because there was a pause between the 2nd and 3rd it was okay..no one did come to see anyway.

Murphy kept walking back to the bedroom  and then to us. He was telling us it was time for bed...he won't get up on the bed until he gets the command..so we thought he was right...we left the radio on to listen to the program and turned in.
