November 30th

the bed got pretty warm so I did end up turning off my side.
I slept in until  6am…a record for me!
Got my water going for tea and said my Rosary…

Steve soon got up too…I asked how he liked the warm bed…he said it
was too warm and wondered  why it only went to  low and
not off…I told him about  the on/off switch...I don't think he had ever used
an electric blanket!

Beth came around 7:30 …she backed up the driveway… she had a cup
of coffee and checked out my Mp3 and got it working on the
stereo…so I was happy…don’t know why it didn’t work for
me last night…but it will be nice to just play music that way since the cd
player broken.

Carl came with the tractor and plowed the driveway…I had wanted to call
him earlier in the week to let him know we were coming but when I
mentioned it to Steve he seemed to think it wasn't necessary so I didn't...
but when  we started out he asked if I had called  him and I said no...so I
made a call at Hinckley and left a message…I was sure he was out of town…
but would be around sometime during the weekend.  We maybe didn’t
need to have it done but it will  save us from getting stuck…  I now will just
call Carl without conferring with Steve!

Beth and I went out and check out the trail through the ravine that she

Rocky had made… it was pretty tricky with the snow and the incline…but a fantastic!  Beth found a med sized branch  for me to use for a walking stick..it was Hobbit sized but helped give me support…we now can get over to our land on the other side very easily!   Oh, I can’t wait to check out the 3 Apple trees we discovered over there this Fall!

She was working on a house on Lenawee but first we went to Ruxy’s
for breakfast…I picked out a book from the library there…it was
really slim pickings…but found one by Janet Evanovich..it turns out it was her first novel.. Hero at large.

Beth  left for work and we headed to Iron River...I had forgotten dog
food and Murphy couldn't survive on Charlie treats...though he
seemed pretty happy with them!
In Iron River we first stopped at the library  so I could get on the
Internet, then to the grocery store…I at least was dressed for the
temperature in there.  Just picked up a few things..Steve got his $4
wine…we decided to not get water at the artetian well…but we did take a side trip to check out the National Fish Hatchery off Hwy A…Steve also wanted to check out the guys place who bought the junker cars off our land who lived on that road…it wasn’t hard to figure out which place was his…there was a field of junker cars… at least they weren't  next to his house.

We stopped at Carl and Patty’s so we could pay him… he
was working on a grape vine trellis… we went inside…tomorrow was
Patty’s birthday so she went and got the wine that we gave her last
summer…it was still outside where she left it… so she and Steve
had some wine in honor of her birthday… she brought out some
cheese and crackers… I mentioned I had her pt. jar from the grape
jelly she had given us. she went down stairs and brought up another
pt. and a pt. of Strawberry jam… that was great!!!
Carl didn’t want to take anything for plowing…but Steve left $20 on the table for him...  they are such good neighbors!
When we got home I listened to my audio book  and soon was tired so I went and crawled into bed for a nap …Steve napped in his chair.
When I got up I went outside to brush my teeth, It is really pretty decent outside.
I started the oven and got the artichoke dip made and put it in…
hope I had enough garlic…it called for a ½ cup… I only brought one
with.  It baked for 30mins…I took it out and it was kind of soupy …we
ate some but I decided to bake it a little longer.. that is what it
needed.. pretty tasty warm appetizer..I offered Steve more but he
said he had enough because of the Vit. K in the Artichokes…he has
to watch his cumidin.
We listened to NPR…people were calling in with their concerns from
the news for the week…pretty interesting… The next show that
came on was pretty boring so I switched stations found on out
of U of M Duluth…playing 60’s Jazz.. we both enjoyed it…Steve said
we should build a “Dancing Ring”…which I found amusing since he
doesn’t like to dance…he explained that the annual fishing trips he
and his buddies used to go on would make one.  I asked if he
danced in it..he said no, mainly Luth and Schramm did… I think that
may be part of the story about one of them falling into the fire…. I
love it when Steve talks  about  the times with those guys… great
memories for him.

Steve suggested we walk down the driveway …it was pretty dark …cloudy and no moon… we put on our boots and he brought  “Maggie” along… Murphy was so excited …every time we get up to do something he heads for the bedroom and wants to get up on the bed… he sure loves the luxury of sleeping there… so it was good to distract him.. I hung on to Steve’s arm as we walked …it was pretty “cool” out there… not much wind and just the light from the snow… even with Steve’s poor hearing he stopped a couple times because he heard dogs howling… at first it was the neighbor dogs  then we heard the Coyotes or Wolves… the yippee sound were the Coyotes..  Steve took Maggie out and said he needed to let them know we were there! he asked if I wanted to shoot it but I didn’t have ear protection… so I covered my ears and he shot…it just echoed…it is fun to see him enjoying himself.

We came back in and the radio station started playing  the play “It’s a Wonderful Life”… it must have been a high school or college production...Steve said it was just like being back in the auditorium in high school!

When we went to bed  I wasn’t going to turn on the mattress heater but looked over and Steve had his side on…so I thought I would turn mine on low for a while…it did feel really good…maybe we will get one for our bed so he can stop with the heated rice bags every night. a couple times the Coyotes and Wolves serenaded us!
