May 18th
It was a calm sunny morning..I got up around 5..Dan was able to sleep which was good that my activity wasn't waking him!
He woke around 6..I had the coffee warmed up from yesterday...luckily he didn't mind not having fresh coffee..guess it was an old habit of his too..
I had been drinking my creeping Charlie tea and my cold symptoms are 75% better! So glad since I can't find any cough drops I can take..."go into the woods and heal yourself"...read that awhile back.
The guys went out and started digging the trench and I started washing windows..I used the cooler as a step stool.
It is going to be a hot day...Dan said they should have dug yesterday and mowed lawn today.
I went in and made scrambled eggs and cottage fries from the left over baked potatoes for breakfast ..I love cooking in my cast Iron fry pans...I used Coconut oil which is a healthy oil...it is a saturated fat but is digested quickly and turns to energy instead of fat!
After breakfast the guys got back to digging...I climbed the ladder to call Beth and then saw she had arrived ...so I climbed down and pretended I was leaving her a message...she said "Mom I'm here!"
I thought I was funny!
The guys were going to Iron River and Beth and I left for Testners greenhouse which is close to Ashland.
We had such a great time looking at all the beautiful flowers and seeing the different plants... we bought different varieties of hot pepper plants and then shared them...
I bought a chocolate Mint plant ...it smells so good!
On the way back we stopped at Vic's .. Vic is 90 and was a Bush pilot in Alaska. He and his wife retired to Cornucopia and built a log home, I mean they built it by hand themselves! His wife passed away not too long after. Vic still rides his bike and goes often to Herbster and has coffee at the local restaurant...that is 8 miles from his house!!!
Vic had a bandage on his elbow, he has slipped in the bathtub and whacked it... he had just been to the Dr and got some antibiotics and the Dr told him no activity for a few weeks...he told the Dr he needed to cut wood the next day... he didn't do that but did mow his landing strip.. his elbow was sore so he thought maybe he would wait awhile to cut wood.
His house has an Atrium that he has an orange tree and kept tomato plants and had fresh tomatoes all winter long! I filed that idea for our house plans.
Vic told us that it was probably the last year he would be flying...he has Macular degeneration.
We asked Vic about Chaga Mushrooms and he didn't know what it was... I talked more about it and said it was also called the fire starter...his eyes lit up and he knew exactly what we were talking about., he used it often to do just that but never drank it... he told us that we can drink it first before he tried it...he had a bad mushroom awhile back and has gotten less adventurous.
We stopped at Beth's to harvest the Chaga she had found in the woods...we went inside and checked on you tube to get more info on it... Beth's thermometer said 91 degrees!!
Beth showed me all her new gardens...Rocky had built some raised garden beds with notched logs...
She had such a beautiful setting by her clothes lines...some of Rocky's Dad's drift wood Sculptures and wild rosebushes..
When we got back the guys were sitting under the awning having a beer..looked like they hadn't gotten too far on the trench... we showed them the Chaga ..Dan took a piece and tasted it Beth lighted a piece ...it is supposed to help headaches...it had very nice aroma burning... like incense...
I went in to make some tea. Danny had some electrical questions for Beth .. the tea was ready and we all took a taste...it was good...tasted like a woodsy coffee..
Beth went home to start working on planting her garden...and Dan decided he would leave and stop in Hayward at the casino and stay over night there.
I had a rack of lamb that was fixing for Dinner so it was just me and Steve to enjoy it...and it was sooo good!!!
We sat outside and Steve said Murphy needed some exercise and that "I" should take him for a walk down the driveway..love when he tell me what I should do... but .I thought about it and then decided it was a good idea... on the way back I sent Murphy to find Steve and he raced to him...and then he sent him back to me. he was running so fast I thought he would run me over but he came to a screeching halt and sat at my feet. We continued doing this as I walked back to Steve.....Murphy loves that game... we do too!!
The Coyotes and Wolves started their nightly calls... we listened for awhile...it had really cooled off!
