Writing today’s date and I
started typing 19..for the year … wow.. already 13 yrs into this Century.. long
time since I did that.
It was 45 in the trailer when
I got up… and 35 outside. I made my tea
and soon Patty was up… I got the water going for the French Press she had
brought for us.
Around 8:30 we went to Ruxy’s
for breakfast. I called and left a
message for Beth that we would be there.
She didn’t make it for breakfast but came around 10 to our place. She had along the new Plat Map for Bayfield
County. It was confusing as most plat maps are…I
looked up our address White Birch Rd wasn’t even listed… later I told Beth to
look under East and sure enough there it was East White Birch Rd.. It was
interesting to see who owned the hay land to the E of us.
Beth brought the new Wild
life Camera …I sent it back with her Labor Day weekend when she was home for
Heidi’s wedding… she hadn’t gotten over here to set it up …so I got the
batteries in and set up the time/date … and we went down the trail and strapped
it on a tree… hopefully this one will last longer than the first one did…
thankful for Wes for getting it replaced.
We decided to go to the
Marina Beach in Port Wing to try the metal detector. Steve came in and asked if we should take two
cars or if he should empty the back of the Van and put the seat up? I said to put the seat up but Beth was okay
with driving… good grief Steve that is what is nice about having a Van!!
We started heading to a beach
and a liver colored Springer came to see us… Steve tried chasing it away and it
thought he was playing with him… but then Murphy let him know he wasn’t welcome
and he went back home. Nice dog just wanted
to say Hi…
We started down the path and
got some hits but it was just junk… the only thing interesting we did find was
a large old nail bent at a 90 deg. angle…I
am sure it was from the Fitzgerald!
I threw a stick into the lake
and Murphy went in after it…but it was too far and the water was cold… so I
threw another one but he kept looking to go after the first one!
There was a group of ladies
on the pier taking turns taking group pictures…so I went and offered to take
one for them…one of them must have been afraid of dogs …because I heard one say
"oh, here comes a dog".. I told Murphy to
“stay” .. I didn’t realize the boulders from the beach
had a big crevise to climb over…but I found one that wasn’t big enough for
me to fall into and climbed up there… I took one with someone's cell phone and
then with the camera…but with the sun out I could just see enough of their
outlines to take it… I couldn't really tell if they turned out… sure hope it
did…I took 2 on each camera.
We got home and had lunch…
Beth brought a great salad she had made .. feta cheese, almonds, apples, and
greens…she brought a wonderful berry Vingrete to put over it… we had Pat’s
Sloppy Joes…never get tired of those!!
Steve went over and got the
Lawn mower from the shed and the wagon…he forgot the bean toss boards that I
planned to paint this trip.. I told him that and then I realized he didn’t
because it would be better to paint them over there.
Steve and Pat were going to Iron River and as they were heading down the driveway I remembered I left the paint in the Van…I
caught them in time to get it..
Beth and I went over to the
shed and started painting them… I only brought 3 spray cans… thinking that
would be enough… it was for just the tops…
Beth was concerned the puppy would be just a pain but she learned quickly to stay away from what we
were doing .… they dried in 15mins… we brought them back over to the yard and
were going to play a game…but I left the bags in the Van…
It wasn’t long and they were
home … Steve said he supposed someone should mow…Beth offered… Since we weren’t
going to the Port for Pizza that night I needed to get something for supper…so
I went to the store and got some Pork Chops , chips for Beth’s home made salsa,
and Ice cream since they bought root beer in Iron river!
I got back and Beth was almost done with the one side… just
like old times seeing her on the mower!
She finished mowing and we
got the game set up… it was fun and Steve even joined us! Steve and Beth won but Pat and I did forge
ahead in points so we weren’t totally blown away… Steve did think they were too
far apart so we moved them closer and we girls practiced awhile…it did seem
better closer.
It was
getting colder so Beth got a fire started.. She played fetch with a tennis
ball with Josie. She could barely get it in her mouth…
I was getting the grill ready
and couldn’t find the charcoal in the cubby in back… then I remembered the bag had
gotten wet last time we were up and I had put it into a
pail…the cover had come off the pail and moisture had affected them…but I tried starting them anyway...after a lot starter fluid
used it just was too damp and it crumbly..Beth suggested using wood… she
and Rocky use that instead of Charcoal…Dan had brought a couple boxes of
small oak slabs so Beth asked for a hatchet to chop them in smaller pieces. Her
Dad wasn’t sure it was a good idea for her to do that… he was worried
she would chop a finger off…she laughed
at him and said she uses one all the time and is very careful!
I started carrying them over
to the grill… when she was finished she got them situated right and started them… she said that the pork chops really would have been good with apple
wood…so when we trim up our apple trees we will save that wood for BBQing…
This is so fun!! Charcoal is costly and they say it isn’t good
to eat food that often with it…we sure have plenty of wood here ..so here's to living more frugally
when we retire!
The fire died down and I
brought out the chops…Beth took over the grill…which is so nice for me!! She sure was an expert on grilling! They turned out just perfectly!!
my mouth waters just looking at the pictures!
We just had the chops with
the salad and the tomatoes Pat brought!
We ate out by the fire …it was getting colder and colder! The Coyotes started howling so I came in to
get the recorder… but they didn’t keep it up so I missed it!
Everyone was too full for
floats…plus being cold outside, it just didn’t sound good anyway…maybe I should get
some hot fudge for the ice cream.
Beth was getting tired and
left for home…I sent a chop for Rocky…he is working a big tree trimming job in
Bayfield… clearing for a view of the Lake..he wants the trees saved for fire wood so Rocky
had to figure out how to haul them up to the top…I guess it is quite an
incline..Rocky works so hard but he is worried that it will be too costly for the
guy.. Beth said he was a neurosurgeon and certainly could afford it… plus he
knows it isn’t going to be cheap!
Steve said whoever was the
last one at the fire to spread it out and douse it with water… Beth didn’t’
think it was necessary …but I did douse it like he said… good
obedient wife that I am!
We were all tired from our
day and went to bed early.
