September 14, 2013
I slept until 6:15… that felt
good… though Pat is an early riser I still didn’t want to bother her too
early…she did say though that she didn’t hear me moving around yesterday morning.
When everyone got up I made scrambled eggs with the fixings everyone wanted… then we wrapped them in the flour
tortilla’s Pat brought. Steve and I put
Beth’s homemade salsa over ours…I definitely have to get that recipe! I told her my salsa
always was too watery..she said she let hers drain for about an hour in a
colander to get rid of the excess.. I will definitely try that and I need to get some of her Tia peppers!
After we did dishes I was
feeling like a run was in order…my calf had been really sore after running last
week…so I had laid off for a few days…yesterday running on the beach they felt
good so I would just run a mile or so…I started out and didn’t get far and it
started tightening up…I went about ¼ mile and started walking…so frustrating….I
texted Margi about it on the way home… thinking it maybe that I needed
new shoes…I sure hope that is the cause…I don’t want to give up running!
Steve had gone to town
earlier to get a paper and reminded us that the farmers market was going on
…so Pat and I went down there to check things out…being the end of the season there really
wasn’t anything we needed..there was a guy selling handcarved spoons..they were
really nice.
I went and checked the apples and they had sweetened up ..so Pat and I grabbed
grocery bags and went out and started picking…even Patty’s favorite was ready..
we picked our way over to the shed where I got a couple bushel basket..we
picked about 2 ½ bushels… good apple pie apples… It sure was nice using the
apple picker that Gary gave us… that extended pole is perfect! The apples didn’t have bugs…there were some
bird holes in them though.
The trees had paths around
them… but the ones close to the ravine really had the grass flattened… there sure are
plenty of apples to share with the wildlife!
When we came in I fixed
myself a root beer float…Pat didn’t want one at first but then rinsed her
coffee cup and had a small one…they sure tasted good!
The wildlife cam hadn’t been
out there that long but I was curious to see if it had captured anything…I
decided to take a shortcut instead of going to the entrance Rocky and Beth made..I went into the woods by the hammock… it was a bit tricky but I
made it to the path… and the found the camera… brought the sd back and the only
think really on there was me setting it up in the trailer…scary picture… and
some of when we tied it to the tree… I put it back and lowered it a bit…
I walked down the driveway
to call Beth, I left her a message that we would be going to Corny around 2 or so…and
would call her then.
We did leave around 2:30…
Steve didn’t understand why we were going there…we didn’t need water…but there
are things to see…and Pat likes the Siskiwit coffee shop and it has wifi... isn't that enough reason?
I called Beth when we got
there…the Art Crawl was going on so I was happy we came..Beth said she would
pass on coming to Corny. Rocky said he would meet us at The Port around 7
and she would be over to our place between 5 and 6…
We enjoyed looking at all the Artisan booths ..a lady
was selling rag rugs but they were really spendy..$55 for pretty small ones…the
next booth a cool looking gray haired man was selling Maple Syrup…$10 a ½ qt…it
was processed to a nice thickness ..I had been looking for some and the price was right! He also worked with rose wood and had pens he
had made…also seam rippers…very cool!
We headed to the coffee
shop…and there were artists in there also.. I found a table and fired up the
laptop..Pat got some coffee for her and tea for me… hadn’t missed anything on
FB… no new e-mails… sent a message to
Kyle on Words telling him Margi would be able to run the Gray Ghost with
me after all! Steve came in to get the
keys..he was going to get Murphy and sit in front of Ehlers.
We met him there..went inside
and looked around Ehlers…Beth had brought in Connie’s “growing medicinal Herbs
in your garden” cards so I was looking for them...and I found them.
We then went to the Lake…
took out the metal detector… we did find money!
3 cents total… it is fun to actually find something when we get a
hit!
We got home about 5:15… Beth
arrived about 6… she said Josie was a bad girl… some friend stopped in front of
the driveway in a hay wagon… one of their friends walked up the driveway to see
if she and Rocky wanted to join them… Josie headed down to the road to say “hi”
to everyone not listening to Beth’s call to come back. Course she got rewarded
with lots of attention when she got there so that didn’t help.
She said Rocky had brought
her camera and did a video of the job clearing the woods for the guy in
Bayfield… so we watched that..unbeleivable… he is such a strong guy! He has to not only cut the trees the man
wants them dragged up the hill and cut up for fire wood… Rocky said it is about
a 8/12 pitch in the steepest part…he is cutting the trees and then has a pully
set up through the trees, (reminds me of a zip line)…to pull them up so far and
then from there he will cut them and is thinking he will use a sled to haul
them the rest of the way…he said he really likes the challenge! I don’t know many men that would even attempt
it!
Beth and I played bean toss
…she won so Pat then played with her… Pat got
3 ringers in a row! We were all
impressed! She won that game so I played
Pat… I won..and egged Steve on to play me…of course he couldn’t resist the
challenge from and of course beat me!
We played with the dogs…and
then it was time to go for Pizza! Rocky
wasn’t there yet but we went ahead and ordered… Pat was treating us…we had the
Supreme and Chicken alfredo Pizzas… Rocky got here not too much later…the pizza was
still hot!
I asked the waitress to take a picture with my phone… but she didn’t
press the button hard enough… so Rocky took one and he is in the window…though you can’t really see him that clearly.
I was so happy he took the
time to come and join us…I know he must have been super tired after working all
day…he will go back tomorrow too… such a sweet guy.. love him!!
We left for home and Steve
was heading to bed and Pat said she wanted to go for a walk but it was too
dark…I told her we could bring the flashlights and Murphy and just walk to the
road…Steve heard us and thought it was a great idea he would bring "Maggie" with
and fire off a shot!
So he walked part way…shot
her off and went back… it certainly was dark outside…Pat and I made it to the road and
back.. what a great idea.
Pat got her bed ready and
crawled in and read…I said the Rosary and then
went off to bed.
Another perfect day!
