Mass at St Michael's in Iron River was at 8:30a.. just as I going to leave Steve decided he needed to go and pick up a Sunday Paper..he hurried and I was only 5 mins. late in my departure time..one deer crossed the road on the way there..that is always something to watch for ..around Hutch too.
I pulled in to Iron River and it was 8:27.. I found the church easily...took the first parking spot I came to ..they were just finishing the first prayer so that was good...guess I need to leave a little earlier next time.
After Mass I stopped and got gas ..it was 3.99...4.05 in Port Wing. Steve will be pleased!
I put the dehydrator back outside.. it sure is a stinky job doing fish!
I went out and picked some apples to make apple crunch.. this springs late freeze really affected the apple crop.. last year I bet I picked over 20 bags full and there were still lots of apples left on the trees...this year if I picked them all I would get that many.
I got my ingredients together and didn't have enough butter.. so I quickly went to "the store".
Patty drove up in the 4 wheeler with Rex...right when I got the apple crunch in the oven. Murphy had an attitude but Rex ignored him and didn't get out of the ATV..
she wanted to invite us for supper ..but I thought Beth would be coming over ... so she told us to make sure we stopped to get tomatoes and potatoes before we headed back to Hutchinson. I asked if it would be okay to drop in at Gwen and Tygars for more garlic ...she said it would be and if I wanted, she would go along with me..she left but we didn't really set a time... so when the crunch was done I went over to her place...she was gone ..then I remembered she said she was going to The Store...so I went home and waited 10 minutes and went back...she was home and ready to go..so it worked out okay not setting times... won't need a "Planner" when we move up there!
There were more cars there...Gwen was busy with customers but Trygar brought us in to the barn..he explained more about Garlic and how to plant them...the seconds I bought yesterday wouldn't be good for planting.. just like using the best gene's for livestock breeding ..the same is true for plants..you use the best quality plant.
I got 10 different varieties ..they have 27 ... using the menu they have for them I picked the ones I thought sounded interesting. I plan to share with Connie at the Lamb Shoppe. I had no idea there was anything other than the garlic in bulk or packaged that I bought in the stores... can't wait to try them all!!
Gwen and Tygar are leaving for the winter in their Scamp Oct 1st...so I won't be able to go back when we come back in October..and this is their last year growing garlic commercially...but will have enough for neighbors and friends!!
Tygar solved the mystery of the bush with the red flowers and green berries...it is a Red twigged Dogwood!
I asked him about his name...it isn't Norwegian as I thought... Tiger was his nickname as a boy..when he went to school he was Phillip..he decided to legally change it and wanted to have a different spelling for it ...and chose Tygar..he is French Canadian ..LeVesque is his last name..no relation to my cousins husband.. he met a French Canadian woman who told him the spelling of his name is actually the word that French Canadian grandma's called their grandson's...it means "dear one"...he really was pleased to hear that.
I dropped Patty off and came home and showed Steve all the garlic... he was so excited...well not really but I was and he tried to show some enthusiasm! He tries ...Bless his heart!
I decided to take a walk in the Ravines and pick the bright red apple I saw down there earlier and I came across an orange ball on the ground..at first I thought it was a pumpkin but it was a mushroom...

I decided to take a walk in the Ravines and pick the bright red apple I saw down there earlier and I came across an orange ball on the ground..at first I thought it was a pumpkin but it was a mushroom...
I still haven't found out what type it is... I took the picture with my cell phone and came back later with my camera but Murphy raced ahead of me- ran into it and broke it!
Patty had wanted Beth's Tomato soup recipe so I went over there and used her computer to look it up...it was on Allrecipes.com...she uses that site ..I have started too and found some really good recipes....I brought some Trout Jerky and Apple Crunch for them...she gave me potatoes and tomatoes...they had a bumper crop on both of them!
I used Patty's land line to call Beth ..Rocky answered he said the trip out to Sand Island was really hairy... once they got around one of the islands they were protected from the wind.. had a great night camping on the island... they had to bring his truck to Iron River for repair...so I guess meant she was stopping Monday before work.
When I got home I asked Steve if he wanted Lamb Chops for supper...he didn't care...so I thought we would just have the chicken wings left over but only 2....so I went ahead and lit the grill seasoned the lamb chops ..put one of the fresh potatoes in the Mic so it will grill faster... I cut up a zucchini, red onion and decided on the Blue Italian gourmet garlic to saute in olive oil..oh my, did that smell good!! Everything we had came directly from the garden or local farm... it was all soooo good! I fixed a container for Beth's lunch tomorrow at work!
I turned on NPR and we listened to "this not that"..Steve went to bed and I asked if the radio bothered him...it didn't so I left it on and also went to bed...I got up around 11 and shut it off.
I was back awake at 1:30...so I got up and had some apple crunch ...turned the radio on low and laid curled up on the couch to sleep the rest of the night.
