June 9th
Happy Birthday to my sister Janet!
Today is also Kata Rathke's Wedding..she is getting married at Anderson's Garden in Litchfield hope it is rain free!
I did wake up at 4am but made myself stay in bed and I did fall back asleep for another hour.
It was super calm outside so decided to go out and finish burning the rest of the old papers from Steve's bag..going through it 75% could have been tossed into the garbage..but it went fast and it gave me something to do!
Steve continued on with the trench..his poor back..he has to take lots of breaks!
I called Beth and she had to go and help Rocky pick up shingles at his roofing job so she wouldn't be over until later afternoon.
I was really in need of a bath and hair washing so I heated the kettle and decided to use the bathtub/shower.
It was really small..1/2 of the space is a seat.
I poured 1/2 cold water and then the hot water and then squeezed into the tub..my knees up to my chin...but it worked! it reminded me of a picture of Dennis and me in a galvanized tub we used as a wading pool as kids...
It really felt good! I left the bathroom door open and I looked up and there was Steve peeping through the bedroom window at me... funny guy!!
I really was into the book I got at Ruxy's and spent the afternoon reading and napping..it was such a relaxing day!
Steve was going to put the lawn mower away along with the weed whip. I hadn't done any trimming yet so he got it started for me and gave me a lecture on going slow and watching what I was doing especially by the trailer..."yes Dad"..
Course my Dad never would have let me use a weed whip!
I didn't have much to do ... I was going around the trailer and the weed whip wrapped around the electrical cord...I didn't cut it but really gave me a "rush"! when I got to the Propane tanks it caught a wire and made the most horrendous noise ...Steve came out of the trailer with the words "what did I tell you?" but then he apologized when he realized it was a wire that I couldn't have seen....I didn't mention the electrical cord..... I didn't want to tarnish my new reputation a skilled weed trimmer!
Even though I hadn't gotten that much Yarrow I decided to make an infusion anyway... I put it under the compartment under the bed.. when we come back in a month the yarrow should be in full bloom...I like picking the herbs and plants here because they are free of pesticides...totally organic.
I went out and sat in the shade and read ..Steve joined me ..he had finished digging the trench... I had found a great radio station that plays songs from 60s and 70's ..it was so fun...they were playing tunes I had totally forgotten about!
I asked Steve if he wanted to play Croquet..he said no...that our yard was too bumpy and uneven to play that game and that we should have a Boche set. then he suggested using the croquet balls.. I went and got 3 balls. he said I should practice first and then he would play.. so I did and really needed the practice...we ended up not playing anyway.
It wasn't long and he told me "here comes your daughter and sure enough a 3 wheeler came roaring up the driveway, at first I thought it was a kid...but he was right it was Beth.
Rocky was still working on the roof...they had to take a few hours off during the heat of the day because it wrecks the shingles working on them in the heat...Rocky works so hard.. he works at the Fishery from 4am to 10am and then he goes and does his roofing jobs..and works until 8:30 at night.. this is a big roofing job..he's been on it for a couple weeks.. we didn't get to see him this trip either...but it is sure understandable.
Beth brought me some Plantain from her yard so I will make an infusion when I get home. I can't believe I didn't find any here..I know I did last year..must be too early.
She and Steve looked over the wire in the trench and were talking about the whole process, which was in a totally different language that I didn't understand...
Since it passed her inspection Steve started filling in the trench...I told Beth we should probably help the "old man"...he said that I wouldn't do it right anyway... well alrighty then...
After Beth left I did start helping him...he came over and said "you are doing a better job than I am"...at least he admits when he is wrong!
He decided a rack would help get the job done faster so he went over to Patty and Carl's to borrow one. It did help!
I went in and something to eat and Steve came in soon after...the neighbors dog must have gotten off it's chain because we could hear him hollering for it...the poor dog has to be chained when he is outside because it runs away from him...he blames it on it being part Husky...the Coyotes and wolves were howling in the distance so I pray his dog is OK.
Tomorrow we pack up and go back to Hutch...it gets harder and harder to do that.
Steve told me that sure have a nice home...little but nice!
