January 5th, 2012 Happy New Year!
We didn't think when we closed up in November that the 2nd week in January would be our first trip back to Port Wing...but here we are packed up and leaving Hutchinson with the Temps a balmy 34 degrees and no wind!
Steve needed to put air in our tires so our first stop was at the gas station in Kimball so we skipped our usual stop in Foley at Casey's and our next stop was at the unclaimed freight in Mora.
Steve had been looking for a metal Slinky and he found one there! While checking out the clerk said it just came in and there was only one! Steve had heard it helps antenna's get better reception, so we will see!
Cassidy's in Hinckley for lunch and we were on the road again by 12:12PM and arrived in Port Wing by 3:10... there was hardly any snow and we were able to drive right up to the trailer.
It was 40 degrees inside.
I went to find the extension cord we use to plug in to the Electrical pedestal and it wasn't in the cupboard I ALWAYS stored it in... Steve remembered we put it inside the couch storage... that was not fun getting it out of there...100ft one inch cord with an outlet on the end... it is going back to the cupboard it belongs in!!
we had left some water jugs half filled with water that were frozen... luckily I had brought along water, so I heated some up and poured into the jugs to thaw them to get my "potty" set up which is a red pail with a toilet seat on top...what else does a girl need!
Steve shoveled off the roof and then settled into his recliner with a glass of wine and the newspaper.. I had the radio on and we were listening to "World Cafe" out of Duluth...
I had brought along a chicken thigh concoction I had made a few nights ago and had that for supper...Steve was still full from his meal at Cassidy's.
He said tonight would be a perfect night to sleep outside in our new sleeping bags..I think he was surprised when I said "lets"..but he said it was too wet..I suggested putting the old sleeping bag down on the ground under us..but he decided another time would be better... I was disappointed.
The moon was out so we went for a walk up the driveway and then over to the entrance to the shed and back across the land.. Steve decided to shoot "maggie" (his Rugger) up into the air..even though he didn't bring ear protection..I covered my ears- he put his hood up to cover his ears.. he said it wasn't bad at all.
We went to bed early..8:30pm.
