Corny Weekend.. Friday
It rained during the night. I got up at 4:45am..it was still dark.. I started journaling and had my tea.
The sun was just getting up and I looked outside to see a Doe and her fawn grazing in the yard...they stayed for quite awhile and then headed for the Ravine.
Steve got up about 7..went to town and got a paper...then went to get water at Patty's.
Beth arrived and we all went together in one car to Iron River..I left a note on the door for Ron and Mary in case they arrived before we got back.
1st stop was the Laundromat ..Beth got her clothes in the washers and we went off to browse the thrift shops in town. I found a cool rainbow wind twirly thing with a red tractor on it for Steve's Birthday.. I also found a brand new, in the box, never used Crochet set for just $16, perfect for our Corny weekend fun!!
The next stop is the grocery store..the first thing out of Steve's mouth once the car is unloaded is "when are we going to the grocery store in Iron River?"... at home he is never that concerned with groceries... wondered why he is on White Birch rd?... well, he grabbed his own cart and next time we saw him he was loading it with the $4 wine they sell there...apparently it is very good... mystery solved!
He was also picking up groceries for his "perfect omelets" he had planned for Saturday Morning breakfast... when we got out of the store he told us about how he was waiting in the checkout line and all of a sudden he saw a tomato rolling across the floor and going under a cooler...Beth said she saw it too... thought it was pretty funny...well, he checked the tomatoes in his cart and sure enough he was minus one...so he went back and replaced it.
we got back home and the Holtz's hadn't arrived yet but not too long later and Lance and Virgene showed up.. they had been on vacation since Sunday in Bayfield County.. they had spent the night before on Madaline Island... Virgene is Steve's cousin, actually Cousin in law, she is Steve's cousin Dale's widow... Dale died when their 2 children were small, she raised them as a single parent, and did a fantastic job. She and Lance have been married 8 yrs.. Virgene always calls steve "cuz"...I can tell it warms his heart!
I showed Virgene around and we sampled the apples..pretty sour!
The Holtz's arrived at 3:30...they got a late start... we sat outside, had some cocktails, Lance and Virgene went to check in at the cabins in Port Wing and get cleaned up... when they came back we decided to go to the Port Bar for Pizza... afterwards we came back and sat outside and watched thunder and lightning in the sky..it was far away and didn't reach us...
lance and Virgene went to their cabin and we hit the sack too...it was 10... nice day!
