July 10th

As the sun was coming up this morning I had a feeling the South Shore was going to miss the rain that was in the forecast.

I fixed Steve some coffee …I hadn’t done that for him for a while.  He never complains but heads to the store to get his coffee and then a paper.

I read the Litany of the Hours and then soon after Steve was up.. he seemed happy with the coffee ready for him.

I walked down the driveway to get cell service and call Beth.  I told her we were going to Iron River right away that morning and asked what she was doing that day and had time to join us.

She said she wasn’t ready but I said we would wait for her.  It was only a little after 8.

It didn’t take long and she was here.  I gave her some coffee and showed her the pictures from the live cam.  We decided to move it to another spot.

She was taking the day off .. so would be able to spend the day with us.  It is nice her being her own boss and can do that. She works most weekends so it’s not like she is slacking.

Rocky had taken the day off too.  The winds were perfect for kiting.  He would be at the mouth of the Bruile.  We would go later and see him.   The mouth of the Bruile is only a couple miles off of Hwy 13 and we go by the turn coming and going to Port Wing but are always in a hurry to get ther or get home!  So we are excited to finally see it!

We stopped and had a good breakfast… got groceries and then stopped at the Greenhouse in town, they had apple trees on sale and Beth needed another one for pollination on the one she bought earlier.
We got it into the van, love that van!!

Steve was going straight on A and we asked where he was going..he said to her place to unload the tree, Beth  told him she was figuring on having Rocky pick it up at our place.  Steve asked what  we wanted him to do..so I said go to our place that way we would for sure get to see Rocky.

After they unloaded it Beth noticed the wild strawberries were ready..  She picked a few.  They are super tiny but oh so sweet!

I went in and got us a couple containers and we started picking.  It was so fun.. once you found one there was a patch of them.

It was a beautiful day!  I had on white crop pants so was careful to pull them up as I knelt so I wouldn’t get grass stains on them.

I looked down and here I had strawberries juice stains on them!!  We laughed… Beth said the stain looked like it was tie dyed and I could just do that to them if the stains didn’t come out!  Good idea.. so I rolled around on the ground trying to dye more of them!

I said that this reminds me of when I was a kid and would lay down in the grass and gaze up into the beautiful summer sky.  So we both did that!  So fun being a kid with your kid!

We picked a good 2 cups of luscious berries.  I am thinking these little wild ones are packed with allot more nutrients that the high bred ones you buy or grow in your gardens.

There is something that feels so right not wasting the gifts of nature! God has so blessed us with this land on White Birch!
We took off to look for Rocky.  It is about 15 miles to the Bruile  and then a couple more miles to the mouth.  Rocky’s truck was there. I was excited to finally see him kiting!
There was a family laying on the shore sunning but no Rocky.  Steve started his search for drift wood and Beth looked down the shore line for Rocky .. she saw a green colored object along the shores towards Port Wing but it was really far away.  She was sure it was him and that he was probably resting.  The winds were at 10 knots she thought, but at that speed it is harder to return up wind, so he will probably be walking back.
we walked the beach, the water wasn‘t too bad but not warm enough to swim.  I found some cool rocks for my trivets I make ..and Beth also found some driftwood.  found this guy on the beach!

We left and decided to go to Bracken’s beach to see if we would be closer to Rocky.. that was a very private beach.. have to remember that one. Didn’t see Rocky.   We are hoping he is okay.
We got back to our place and Beth and I went down and got the camera and decided  to put it on the other ravine close to the shed.  While we were over there we  will bring the mower back.  We found a spot for the camera.  Man, were the mosquitos thick!  Beth got the mower started and she backed it out of the shed. It was close quarters but she made it!
Steve wasn’t expecting us to get the mower… I don’t know if he was happy we did our not.. he asked if we checked the oil,  Which we hadn’t.
Beth left and Steve got the oil checked and started mowing the edge of the yard, which I am happy he does because one hole and the mower would send you down the ravine.. not that I want that to happen to him but he has a better eye for spotting them than I do.

I took over and finished the one side. It was so like being on the farm…all the mowing I did there.  I remember how my Mom didn’t think that was right that I mowed, must be man’s work in her day.   But I loved being on the riding mower, even though it freaked me out on the hills!   Then of course when Beth got old enough she took over the job.
Steve took over and finished the other side and I went in and fixed the Enchilada’s with the chicken I brought from home.
Once I started putting them together I realized I needed green chilis, so off to the Store to get some.  They didn’t have any but did have “hot” Jalapeno’s..  better than nothing.. I would just use less of them!
I got them put together and realized I didn’t have a 9x13 baking dish.. so I used the small cast iron fry pan and a pie plate.. that worked!
They really tasted good and there were enough left for tomorrow too!
So thankful God has bless us with this beautiful place!
