March 13, 2014

We were nice and toasty during the night..I even had to take off my sweatshirt and socks.  My head did get cold when it came out from under the covers though.  It reminded me of the bedroom growing up that Janet and I shared that didn’t have any heat.
I got up at 5.  Still single digits outside…but we were warm inside.
The bedroom window was leaking and Steve asked for a towel.  I found a youtube Video showing how to take care of the problem… you need to take the window out and replace the butyl tape…. Pretty easy but you just have to make sure you don’t drop the window when you remove it.  This will be the first Spring project….reminder to self to pick up the Butyl tape.
I was getting cold so I started the oven….
I hung Steve’s jeans on the door to dry.

I heard something ringing …what a surprise, it was my phone… It was Patty..Carl got called into work so wasn’t able to get the friends tractor to blow us out.  He felt bad ….. I guess we will be parking the car during our stay at their house.

I made us breakfast…turkey sausage and eggs…I put mine on a sandwich round….it was tasty…Steve asked if it was Turkey  and when I said Yes, he said he shouldn’t have asked…he is better off not knowing!

I still had one bar on the phone so around 9, I called Beth.  Rocky answered…he said that they got my message about the car being at Carl and Patty’s…. he said she should be at our place soon…and that he was coming with the snow blower to blow us out, or at least get a spot for the Van to be parked off the road.  That was so sweet of him.

It wasn’t long and I saw Beth and Josie walking up the driveway…she was moving good with my snowshoes on..I called for Josie…she didn’t hear me at first…but soon she was racing up to say HI….what a sweetie…..still very much puppy.

I told her how sweet it was that Rocky offered to come and snow blow….she said he feels obligated to do it…especially since I make him socks..he needs to do something in exchange.

It wasn’t long and Rocky showed up…Steve went out to knock down the snowplow drifts so it would be easier to blow.

Beth and I decided to go out and see how things were going…I put on the snowshoes….what a difference they made…it was still cold out so the snow was stronger and Beth could walk on top for the most part…

When we got to the road Beth picked up Josie because there was a beautiful wolf type dog heading over to visit us… it was so pretty… but it  was getting closer and closer … it stopped and we told it to go home and it turned around and went back. That was a nice dog!

Rocky got a nice spot for us to park…but the snow was too hard to go any further down the drive…. We are just grateful that we got the Van off the road…it is a lot more convenient to have it there.

Rocky had work to do at home….I think he was working on the log splitter.   I told him I will make him another pair of socks for his hard work….and said “see it is never ending!”

Rocky took Josie home since Beth had to work at the VI at noon.

We came in and had lunch..I had made sloppy joes at home and I know they are Beth’s favorite.  She left for work and Steve informed me we were going to Iron River so I could go to the Library and log in to the internet, we could buy another sled to haul things, and stop at the grocery.  I told him I didn’t need to visit the world wide web….but he insisted I needed to come along….which was okay with me.

The Sun had come out and it was beautiful drive.  Hills, and trees …the snowbanks were huge just like when we were kids.. I loved walking on them on the way home from school.

We stopped at Hardware Hanks..they had sleds but they weren’t wide enough…plus they weren’t on sale.. …$13 for a plastic sled!  We browsed around…they had some cool hummingbird solar decorations that were clear…I almost got one for my friend Pam, who loves Hummingbirds …they even sit on her finger….but wasn’t sure if they would shine in color which would be cooler than just clear light…. Will have to check on that…

We got to the grocery store and picked up a few essentials….Wine for Steve, Dark Chocolate covered Almonds for me.

We stopped at the Artesian well on Cheese Factory road for water …Steve filled the container and  backed out instead of following the driveway around to the other exit, the snow looked pretty slushy over there.

We both were admiring the beautiful scenery and missed our turn off and there wasn’t a place to really turn around so we took the long way home through town.

I strapped on my snowshoes and told Steve he needed to get a pair….he never thought he needed any but I think he has changed his mind…. I got mine at TJ Maxx and they are so nice…light wt and the bindings are so easy to get on and off .   I am going to look for some for his Birthday present.

He got the pole saw ready to trim some trees and I walked back with the groceries.  He pulled the water on the sled and when he came in he told me that he left the saw by the trees and everything was ready for me to start trimming apple trees. He would come out later….he really needed a nap.

I went out and started trimming….the trees are so overgrown… they really do need a severe trimming….but I just did what I could…I did notice one tree had some bug holes in one of the off shoot trunks…. I think I read about what to do about them without cutting it off….I will check the internet at Beth and Rocky’s.  The sun was shining and I was enjoying being outside….the time went fast…I had been out there for 2 hrs , I decided that was enough work.…I was sure I was going to be sore in the morning…..I checked the temperature and it was 40 degrees …it felt so good…

I noticed a shiny washer laying in the snow…. That Steve must have dropped it….I put it in my pocket to show him.

The snow had gotten a bit slushy and it was hard going with the snowshoes…but still better than without them, one of the bindings seemed looser….?

Steve was sleeping peacefully when I got inside….I had some yogurt and added blueberries and walnuts ….it tasted great.  I hadn’t made yogurt for a few months but decided we needed some along I was so glad I did, what a nice energy  boost!

I  knitted and listened to my audio book…. Almost finished with the book….

We had soup and sandwiches for supper….

The sunset was so beautiful!

We went to bed at 8:30…. I was tired.
