April 4

It's Beth's Birthday today! 29..where did those years go??

We didn't have too much to bring with us this trip..surprisingly.

We left at 9:15am..almost to the minute from our previous trips.. we sure are creatures of habit!!
It was 34 degrees in Hutch and sunny..perfect day for a drive!

Stopped in Foley and our parking spot was free!!  The water was flowing behind Casey's ..

Murphy had lots of Spring smells to check out! Murphy did his "big job"..I picked it up and we walked to the garbage cans in the front of the store just as a police car drove up... a young cute blonde lady officer stepped out... she bent down and said hello to Murphy ..he was sniffing away at her, she said he must smell her dog Brutus!  I didn't ask her what breed Brutus was... I wonder if he is a little dog like Ashley Bell's Papillon...kind of think probably not..it is more like a shepherd or Rottie...

Steve came out of the store and I handed Murphy over to him and went in for a drink.. the police woman was talking to the cashier..I guess she came in on a call from them... I tried to catch what it was about and from what I gathered it was about a customer causing problems in the store... when I checked out,the cashier asked where my dog was??  maybe she wanted me to bring him in so she could say Hi....funny.

We got on the road and we decided not to stop at Cassidy's, since we were going to The Port tonight for Pizza with Beth and maybe Rocky..but we did stop at Mora's Unclaimed Freight.
Steve got a new Columbia T-shirt...can't have enough t's 100% Cotton for $5.. what the heck!  I found some small glass containers with wire closures plus a solar meat thermometer... not sure how it will work but it was a bargain and if it does it will be pretty sweet!

We stopped at Subway in Hinkley..it was noon and a line was forming..but it went quickly and at 1:01P we were on our way.

I took over driving on Hwy 23..Steve went right to sleep.

There was hardly any traffic.. it is such a peaceful beautiful drive.  May not be as fast as the freeway but to me it is worth it.

Steve woke up and took over at Hwy 35 and C intersection.

When we got to Port Wing we stopped at The Store so I could use the bathroom and I picked up some snacks.

The driveway was clear..Spring is here!  Unfortunately the ground was soggy!

Everything in the trailer was fine..it was 60 inside.
I started busily putting things away and out of the corner of my eye I saw something on top of stereo..taking a  closer look it  was a stuffed mouse about 18" tall, with an apron and a duster hat..it was pretty cute.  Someone had been here!

At 4 I walked down the driveway to see if I had phone service. About 30' from the road I got service. I called Beth and we decided to meet at The Port at 6 for pizza.  Rocky was working so she wasn't sure if he'd be there.

A car drove by and honked a couple times..didn't recognize the car..it did come from Arney Rd so maybe it was Mary from the greenhouse or maybe the man who questioned me last year about driving up and down his road slowly. Did he finally realize I wasn't "ma Barker" and I was not "casing" the houses there.

I told Steve we needed water for dishes and cleaning up.. so we went over to Carl and Patty's.  Carl was working at the end of the driveway, rearranging the water drainage.  He said to just go on inside and help ourselves.

We left for The Port at 5:45pM but we didn't get too far.. the front of the car sunk into the clay muck.  It was unreal!!

Steve got out and had me drive while he pushed ..the bottom of the car was level with the mud. It was hopeless!

The car didn't budge .. Steve did some shoveling and I started walking down the driveway to call Beth.. Steve hollered at me, wondering where I was going.. I told him to call Beth ..he didn't hear me so I had to holler louder..I am sure everyone miles around could hear us!

Beth was there and I told her the situation and if she didn't mind picking up a pizza and bringing it to us..because I knew Steve wouldn't be getting us out soon and would eventually have to get Carl and his tractor.  But for now he was being stubborn and said he would get us out.

I went in the trailer and left Steve to his task.

it wasn't long and he was driving out of the muck!! He really is amazing..such determination!

He put a chair on the driveway to signal Beth where to stop and park.

When she got here I offered her a glass of wine, she said no, the guys at he bar found out it was her birthday and bought her a double shot.  one guy gave up his seat for her while she waited for the Pizza.  When they heard we were stuck they offered to come and pull us out. She told them thanks but was sure were were fine.

The pizza was good!! The have the best Pizza!

We decided to to meet tomorrow at 10am to go look at a house she is working on that she thinks is just what we would like for our house plans.

I had some started tomato plants for Beth so we walked out with her.  I had started them and was she would finish them in her greenhouse.
I got by the car and my foot went into a big mucky puddle up to my ankle!  I had on fake fleece lined plastic clogs..uck!  I had wool socks on that were just soaked!  It was not fun walking with one soaked shoe and sock.

When I got inside I took them off..I was sure my sock would be coated in muck..but it wasn't bad at all, just water..I took them off and put them in front of the electric fireplace to dry.
I love spring, I really do ..but it sure is full of surprises!

Steve had taken charge of the heated mattress pad and turned it on earlier.  That was one thing that he didn't think necessary that he admits he was wrong on!
