September 15th

I woke at 5:30... started the hot water for tea and said my Rosary.
It was 50 degrees inside..I don't think it got to freezing last night as they predicted.
It was about 8 when I went to the Store to buy some fresh Trout to make Trout Jerky.. I love my "Dehydrating with an Attitude" book... had to give it a try.
I saw Judy's car and was glad she was there ... Smokey, the owner of the Store and Everett's Fisher, was manning the cash register.
Judy was back in the meat/fish dept packaging fish I told her what I was up too and she weighed out some Trout for me ...
She asked if I had ever met Smokey, I said no, so She brought me up front and introduced me.... "this is  Beth 's Mom..." he had a blank look on his face...and she said you know "Beth that works for you?"  he said ..Oh, I've already me her one time at the Fishery... and then said he never would have known who I was...  I had forgotten about that... and then we laughed about how the memory goes.

I got a pkg of cloves and fresh lemon for the recipe and came home.
I had sent Steve over to fill the Sun Shower at Patty and Carl's.. Carl had told him that patty was over at the Garlic Ladies ..they were having an open house that day ..she was going to come and get me.. and Carl said I should go over there...it was just S of the ball field.
So I got the fish marinating and had an hour before putting it on the dehydrator..so I cleaned up and went over there.
Carl was in the garden when I went by and I stopped to make sure Patty hadn't come home already... she hadn't so I continued on.
The driveway was blocked so everyone was parked on the road.. I walked up the drive and saw Patty talking ot someone..I went up to her and she was happy to see me and said "oh good..you found the place".. Carl had said she was going to come and get me and bring me over...so I don't know how she though I'd know to come... I wouldn't have if Steve hadn't gone over there???

She right away brought me over to meet Gwen and Tygar the owners and introduced me as the new neighbor...she told them i was an old hippy..I laughed and said Really?? she said because I spin wool and make tinctures from plants that makes me a Hippy.
We then went into their barn where all the garlic was layed out.. Wow...I didn't know there were so many varieties!

They had a table with 2nd's ... which sold for $11/lb their premo garlic was $18/lb... they had a table in the entrance filled with bags of orders people were coming to pick up.. they had been written up in the Star and Trib and also in the Duluth paper...

They also had some dips made up to sample using their garlic... they were delicious ...they had the recipes printed out so I took them... one was creamy Artichoke dip...and Sweet Jalapeno dip...

I use garlic but just when a recipe calls for it... they had a Garlic Menu with all the varieties and what they would be best used for...

I picked up a bag and chose some of the 2nds.. I chose 3 Artichoke Varieties..which are mild flavored.. 2 of the Racimbole..most richly flavored.. Purple Stripe..beautiful garlic.. Porcelain firm texture handsome garlic.. Silverskin..a more mild flavor.. so excited to try them all!

Patty showed me their gardens and told me that they don't have running water ...they have a Sauna ... just like Beth and Rocky...I was told that it really isn't that unusual up there for people to live w/o running water and indoor plumbing...  they weren't young though like Beth and Rocky.

Their gardens were fantastic...they had a Pergola with their grapes hanging down... it was just beautiful!!

Their shade garden by the house was so different...not just Hostas!

It was time to get home and get the Trout on the dehydrator ..Patty said to stop over later because she had lots of garden produce to share.

I got the dehydrator going and it was really smelly!  Steve suggested putting it outside...I didn't realize we had an outlet on the outside of the trailer... so that saved us!
